a calm devastation – 9/6+4

A calm devastation
Time to call me back in
Curl up on the floor
Forget the past, the future, all
This goddamned sea
it used to drown me
I’m happy suddenly sinking
Digging my roots in,
Draining the water
Waiting for the rot to begin
Time to call me back in
Am I losing it again

A calm devastation
I see clearly through the year
Curl up on the floor
Burst out my skin again
A tree rising, sky high, from my spine
Crack and grind of wood and vines,
reaching upward, leaves in falling dance,
blotting out my fucking lies,
Time to call me back in
I might be losing it again

A calm devastation
My roots are withered, rancid things,
Throwing leaves of nothing into the sky
Higher, higher I climb,
a hollow branch, nothing inside
While the birth of the bursting
is still just beginning
Time to call me back in
I’m done here
I’m losing it again
The calm devastation is settling in
